Few single sheets show a whole city block of entertainment, but this ink drawing does: four theaters, the Allen, the Ohio, Loew's State, and the B.F. Keith Palace, arranged around the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 17th Street in Cleveland. Dating to about 1925, it captures the period when the Euclid Avenue corner was one of the Midwest's busiest theater districts, where movie palaces and big vaudeville houses competed for the same crowds. Drawings like this were part of the working record of the buildings, used to plan construction, show the layout, and document the design. Its ink lines let viewers compare how these interiors and facades were conceived with what the street actually became.
