This ink drawing from 1926 sets two Cleveland theaters side by side on a single sheet: the Empire, a burlesque house on Huron Road near 9th Street, and B.F. Keith's 105th Street theater at Euclid Avenue, which offered photoplays and vaudeville. Pairing a burlesque house with a Keith vaudeville theater shows how varied the city's entertainment was in the 1920s, when vaudeville, burlesque, and motion pictures all drew large crowds. B.F. Keith's name signaled a national vaudeville circuit, and the Euclid Avenue location placed the house in one of Cleveland's busiest commercial corridors. Drawings like this one record how such buildings were planned and laid out during the period.
