McKinley Park, on Chicago's Southwest Side, takes its name from President William McKinley, who was assassinated in 1901, so the park's name dates it to the years just after his death. This 8 x 10 inch glass negative was made sometime between 1900 and 1910, when the city was expanding its park system to serve crowded working-class neighborhoods. The Detroit Publishing Company sold views like this one as postcards and travel albums, and the record suggests Hans Behm as a possible photographer, though that attribution is unconfirmed.
