This elevation drawing shows the front of the Belasco theater, a playhouse in Washington, D.C., named for the New York producer and playwright David Belasco. Drawn in ink on paper around 1925, it records the building's street face as a set of measured architectural lines, the kind of document builders and city officials used to plan and check construction. Its place in the Library of Congress's architecture and engineering holdings makes it a useful record of how the capital's commercial theaters were designed in the 1920s, when stage houses were a major part of downtown life.
