Titled with the chief's name, Moa-Na-Hon-Ga, or Great Walker, this hand-colored lithograph records an Ioway leader's dress and regalia in close detail. It was printed and colored at I.T. Bowen's establishment in Philadelphia and published by E.C. Biddle around 1837, a period when American printmakers produced portraits of Native visitors and delegates for eastern audiences. Such images circulated widely and shaped popular ideas about Native leaders, and today they are valued as visual records of the clothing and adornment of the 1830s.
