Rather than a finished building, this view records a scale model of the Seventy-second Street branch of the 19th Ward Bank, which sets it apart from ordinary street-level views of New York banks. Such models let a bank present a planned building to its directors and the public before construction began, and this photograph preserves that miniature on an 8 by 10 inch glass negative. The Detroit Publishing Company made the picture between 1900 and 1915, during the years it produced large numbers of American city views. The negative later came to the Library of Congress by way of the State Historical Society of Colorado.
