This view shows the 19th Ward Bank, a neighborhood institution in one of New York City's political districts, rather than a major landmark. The Detroit Publishing Company, which produced large numbers of city views in the early 1900s, made the photograph, and its record dates it to between 1905 and 1915. In those years, ward banks served local merchants and residents, and their street-level facades and signage offer a close look at everyday commercial life in the city. The "(2)" in the title suggests this is one of several views of the same subject.
