The director's room of the 34th Street National Bank in New York City is pictured here as a private meeting space for the bank's board, set apart from the public banking floor. Detroit Publishing Company photographers recorded many American cities and businesses around 1900 to 1910, and interiors like this one show how financial institutions projected stability through solid furnishings, paneling, and formal arrangements. The glass negative, donated to the Colorado State Historical Society in 1949, preserves the room's appearance from the early twentieth century.
