This lithograph advertises *Hora de España*, a monthly magazine of poetry and criticism, and it is one of the few Civil War posters in the group devoted to literature rather than mobilization. Its record, which dates it to January 1937, lists the subjects as hands and writing, so the design appears to put the act of writing at its center. The poster was issued in Barcelona by a joint Socialist (UGT) and anarchist (CNT) organization during the Republic's war against the Nationalist rebels. That combination of a cultural publication and a wartime printing house shows how Republican groups kept intellectual life going while the fighting continued.
