To speak of the Falange is to name Spain" reads the title of this lithograph, a claim that ties a political movement to the nation itself. The record credits its printing to a propaganda office in Barcelona, with a mural section, and dates it to between 1936 and 1939, the years of the Spanish Civil War. The Falange Española, founded in 1933, was a far-right party whose identity was bound up with flags and national symbols, and the poster's catalog tags point to that emphasis. Posters like this one were pasted on walls and used to rally support, so the printed slogan and imagery show how political groups on both sides of the conflict argued over who spoke for Spain.
