Its headline claims that Spain's art has become a target of fascist aircraft, a message aimed at foreign visitors and Spaniards alike. Issued in Madrid in 1937 by the Republic's National Tourist Board, the lithograph turns travel promotion into wartime appeal, casting Nationalist aviation, backed by Germany and Italy, as the villain. The war did endanger monuments and museum collections, and the Prado's masterpieces were moved to safety in Valencia and Geneva. Posters like this one framed the bombing of heritage as proof of what the Republic was fighting to protect.
