Belgrade in December 1918 was a city recovering from years of war and enemy occupation, and this street view offers a glimpse of its daily life at that moment. The picture comes from the American National Red Cross Collection, which is tied to relief work in the region after the war. On December 1, 1918, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes was proclaimed in Belgrade, so the city was also undergoing a political transition. The record notes that the print was catalogued under an earlier lot number but never fully processed, so its exact location in the city is not recorded.
