The title alone sets this print apart: "Valley of Babbling Waters" names a stream-fed valley in southern Utah rather than a famous monument. L. Prang & Co., the Boston firm built by Louis Prang, published it as a chromolithograph, a color print made from a series of hand-prepared stones, each inked for a different hue. The initials "TM" in the title are generally associated with the painter Thomas Moran, whose Western scenes in the 1870s helped introduce the region's landscapes to eastern audiences.
