The record names the first presidents of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as this lithograph's subject, a group portrait of the church's early leaders. Currier & Ives, a New York firm, produced inexpensive prints for a broad popular market, and this sheet, published around 1879, lists John Lind as agent in Utah. That date fell during intense national debate over the church's practice of plural marriage and growing federal pressure against it. The print is catalogued in the firm's raisonné, where it appears as number 2155.
