Ponca men on horseback at the 101 Ranch near Bliss, Oklahoma, set this view apart from other pictures of Plains riders. The Ponca had been moved from their homeland in Nebraska to Indian Territory in 1877, and by the 1890s many Ponca men were working on ranches and in Wild West performances in the region. This print was issued by H.H. Clarke and is hand-colored, so the tinted details of horses, clothing, and landscape were added by hand to a photographic base, a common practice for commercial views of the period.
