Boys in Boy Scout uniforms march on horseback down a street in this glass negative, a pairing of youth organization and horsemanship that may seem unusual today. The Boy Scouts of America was founded in 1910, and mounted troops took part in parades and drills in the organization's early decades, when horses still shared American streets with automobiles. The picture comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency active from about 1900 to 1932. The record gives no date or location, so the specific occasion remains unknown.
