A winter storm that struck New York in mid-January 1910 left its streets buried in snow, and this glass negative records horse-drawn wagons working through the drifts. The picture comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, the work of a news photo agency that supplied pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century. In 1910 horses still hauled most of the city's freight, so a storm like this one forced delivery wagons, carts and drivers to contend with heavy snow on the roadway. The title and date come from the Bain caption cards and have not been independently verified.
