Its title refers to the Statute of Kalisz, a charter Duke Bołesław the Pious of Greater Poland issued in 1264 to set out legal protections for Jews living in his lands. The statute guaranteed personal safety, freedom to practice their religion, and their own courts for internal matters, and later Polish rulers often used it as a model. The record lists Moses and the history of Jews in 13th-century Poland as subjects, but gives few details about the print itself, so its meaning rests mainly on that title and those headings.
