Few places are as closely tied to a president as the grave at Youngs Memorial Cemetery in Oyster Bay, Long Island, where Theodore Roosevelt was buried in January 1919. He died at his nearby home, Sagamore Hill, on January 6, 1919, and his resting place is a modest plot rather than a grand monument, in keeping with the plain habits he long favored. The print comes from the Wittemann Collection at the Library of Congress, and its caption card gives no date, so the view is best read as a record of how the site looked to visitors in the years after his death.
