Harry Kellar, one of the most celebrated American stage magicians of the late 1800s, is the performer this 1902 color lithograph advertises. The poster was printed by the Strobridge Litho. Co., a Cincinnati and New York firm that produced a large share of American theatrical advertising in that era. Kellar toured with elaborate illusion shows for decades and later passed his stage mantle to Harry Houdini, who became one of the best-known magicians of the century. Posters like this one were designed to catch the eye of passersby and draw audiences to the theater.
