Atlantic City's rolling chairs, wheeled wicker seats pushed along the boardwalk, are the likely subject of this parade. The resort had rented them since the 1880s, letting guests see the ocean without tiring their legs. The glass negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, the Bain News Service's store of press pictures from the early 1900s. The record leaves the date uncertain, but the format fits that working-press era.
