The Bain News Service, a photo agency that distributed pictures to newspapers in New York and beyond, made this glass negative, which is part of the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. The record gives the place as Atlantic City, New Jersey, the resort town on the Jersey shore that drew large crowds for boardwalk events, and it describes a parade, but it offers no date and no names for the marchers or the onlookers. Bain's glass negatives from the early twentieth century often show public ceremonies and street life in such crowded settings, so this one is best read as a record of how a seaside parade looked during that era.
