Few addresses in Washington are recorded as precisely as 1747 P Street Northwest, a block in the city's northwest quadrant that this glass negative captures. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that photographed the capital and its surroundings for decades, made many views like it, often sold to the public as souvenirs. The street name comes from data the company wrote on the negative sleeve, and the date of about 1920 to 1921 is estimated from neighboring negatives, so the exact day is unknown. Streaks and blemishes that may appear on the glass come from the coating deteriorating over time.
