The only identifying detail in this record is the name Danise, a title the Bain News Service supplied from its negatives or caption cards, and the catalog notes that it has not been verified. George Grantham Bain ran his news picture service in New York in the early 1900s, selling images of public figures, performers, and everyday city life to newspapers that needed pictures quickly. Glass plates of this size, 5 by 7 inches or smaller, were the standard working tool of that trade, and the surviving negatives give researchers a dense visual record of the period.
