The only identifying detail this negative carries is its title, "Davise," which the Bain News Service recorded on the negative or caption card and which the Library of Congress has not verified, so it may be a personal name, a place, or a mislabeled word. The picture belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection. Bain's New York agency supplied newspapers and magazines with news photographs in the early twentieth century, and its glass negatives, made in the decades around 1910, now form one of the largest pictorial records of that period. Because the record gives no date or subject details, its exact origin remains uncertain.
