Snow-covered drives in Central Park once carried sleighs as well as carriages, and this glass negative records one such outing in New York City. George Grantham Bain's news service supplied pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century and made many images of city life like this, so the scene likely reflects everyday winter leisure rather than a staged event. The title comes from caption information written by the service and has not been independently verified, so the exact date is uncertain. Sleighing was a popular winter pastime for New Yorkers well into the early 1900s, before automobiles reshaped the park's roads.
