A bank and mortgage firm called the Banking Trust & Mortgage Co. stands at the heart of this view, its storefront recorded on H Street in Washington, D.C., with the address given in the catalog record as uncertain. The date is also an estimate, around 1921, and the caption card notes automobiles, which places the scene in the early years of the car's spread through city streets. The National Photo Company, a Washington commercial studio active from about 1907 into the 1930s, made many such street and business views, so the picture offers a useful look at how downtown financial offices presented themselves to passersby.
