New York Avenue Presbyterian Church stood at the corner of New York Avenue and 13th Street NW in Washington, D.C., and this exterior view shows the building as it appeared in the late nineteenth century. The congregation dates to the early 1800s and was among the city's prominent Presbyterian churches, with Abraham Lincoln reportedly attending services there during his presidency. The church's Gothic Revival design, with its tall spire and masonry walls, reflected the broader taste of the period for ecclesiastical architecture in the growing capital. The photograph is undated in its record, with the 1880s suggested as a likely period.
