A cyanotype of the Anderson House at the Old Soldiers' Home in Washington, D.C., made around 1895, shows a building that sat on the grounds of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in the northwest part of the city. The Soldiers' Home, founded in 1851, housed veterans, and Anderson Cottage on its grounds became known as President Abraham Lincoln's summer retreat during the Civil War. The cyanotype process, which produces the distinctive blue-and-white print, was a cheap and durable method popular in the 1890s. The print comes from the Frances Benjamin Johnston Collection at the Library of Congress.
