This glass negative shows a club party traveling in a Pioneer coach, a large passenger vehicle, on its way to Newport. The title gives "Newport, New York," but the resort town best known by that name is in Rhode Island, so the destination is uncertain. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency run by George Grantham Bain, produced many such pictures of city life, with the Library of Congress holding the collection. The record gives no date, but the glass plate format and the agency's working period point to the early twentieth century, when group outings by motor coach were becoming popular.
