A caricature of the cartoonist Herbert Block, known as Herblock, drawn by fellow editorial cartoonist Signe Wilkinson around 2000. The title, "The official chronology," suggests a playful take on Herblock's long career as a chronicler of American politics, which ran from the Great Depression through the late twentieth century. Wilkinson, who won a Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning herself, drew the piece in ink and porous-point pen with color on layered paper. The sheet was shown in the Library of Congress exhibition "Herblock's History," which marked his career as the century closed.
