A woman's head and hands, holding a bundle of flowers and wheat, fill this 1936 design, which is pitched as a Federal theater Project announcement. The Works Progress Administration's federal art program produced posters like this one in silkscreen, a low-cost method that let artists print bold, flat color in large runs during the Depression. The back of the board carries a stamp from the New York State WPA Art Program and a date of May 14, 1941, which shows the poster stayed in circulation years after it was first printed.
