Few posters sum up the 1890s circus as loudly as this one, which bills the Sells Brothers' Enormous United Shows as "the big show of the world." The Sells family ran a traveling circus that moved by rail from town to town, and bills like this were pasted on fences, barns and depot walls ahead of the train's arrival. The color lithograph was printed in 1895 by the Strobridge Lithograph Company, a Cincinnati firm with a New York office that produced much of the period's bold circus advertising.
