Fifth Avenue is billed here as "the world's greatest shopping street," with the Empire State Building, completed in 1931 and then the tallest building in the world, rising above it. Latham Litho. & Ptg. Co. of Long Island City, New York, printed this color halftone in 1932, when railroads were competing hard for passengers during the Great Depression. The poster pairs a famous shopping district with a famous skyline to make a rail trip to the city look like an easy day out, a common approach in American travel posters of the 1930s.
