Few places in the Hudson Valley are as recognizable as West Point, the U.S. Military Academy on its bluffs above a bend of the river, and this color poster presents it as a destination reached by train. The New York Central Lines ran along the east bank of the Hudson, so the railroad could promote the academy and its scenery to travelers heading up the valley. Founded in 1802, West Point was already more than a century old when the poster was made, and its stone buildings and commanding views made it a favorite subject for tourism advertising. The record credits the design to Frank Hazell, and its date is given only as the 1920s, so the exact year of printing is uncertain.
