Shown here at the 1913 New York Horse Show, this view captures one of the city's most fashionable annual events, held that year in the old Madison Square Garden. The show dated to the 1880s and drew wealthy owners, breeders, and spectators to watch jumping and harness classes. The picture comes from the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency whose glass negatives document city life in the years before the First World War. The title is taken from the agency's own notes and has not been independently verified, so the exact moment shown is best checked against the original caption cards.
