The Tuxedo Horse Show took place at Tuxedo Park, the private enclave in Orange County, New York, that Pierre Lorillard IV developed in the 1880s. This view shows horses lined up for Class 16, with riders and mounts arranged for the judges to compare. George Grantham Bain, a New York news photographer, made the glass negative in the years his service supplied pictures of society events to newspapers. Line-ups like this one let viewers compare breeding, tack and horsemanship side by side, which is much of what made such shows worth covering.
