Modern dance is the focus of this 1936 poster announcing Myra Kinch and her group in concert, one of the many promotions the Federal theater Project sponsored during the Depression. Kinch was a modern dancer working in California, and the subject headings point to a performance scene there that the federal theater programs helped keep active. The poster was printed in silkscreen, a stencil process the Work Projects Administration used to make inexpensive, eye-catching announcements for display in public spaces. Its flat color and direct lettering reflect the strengths of that medium and the practical goals of WPA poster design.
