Set in Laguna Beach, California, this 1937 poster advertises a festival of American dance led by Myra Kinch and a modern dance group of 23 artists. Laguna Beach was a small coastal arts colony in the 1930s, and the festival drew on the local artistic community. The poster was produced under the Work Projects Administration's Poster Division and sponsored by the Federal theater Project, which used silkscreen to make inexpensive, eye-catching posters for its events. Its color and bold graphic style reflect the program's aim of promoting the performing arts to a broad public during the Depression.
