Few posters of the period announce a dance program as directly as this one, which presents Myra Kinch and her group in a festival of modern dance in Santa Ana, California. Printed in color by silkscreen in 1938, it was produced under the Works Progress Administration's poster program, and the record notes that the Federal theater Project served as a sponsor while the event itself was backed by the student loan fund of Santa Ana Junior College. Modern dance was then establishing itself as an art form distinct from ballet, and campus events like this one brought such work to audiences far from the major cities.
