This color poster advertises Hermann Scherrer, a breechesmaker and sporting tailor on Neuhauserstrasse in Munich, and was designed by Ludwig Hohlwein, one of the city's best-known poster artists of the early 1900s. Riding breeches and sporting clothes were a specialty for well-off men who rode, hunted, and took part in outdoor sports, so the shop's trade was closely tied to Munich's leisure culture. The record dates the print to about 1907 and credits its printing to the Vereinigte Druckereien & Kunstanstalten. Hohlwein's bold color and simplified forms were a notable step in German commercial art of the period.
