Here Herbert Hoover is shown at a Georgetown University football game against the Navy, played on November 9, 1929, only months into his presidency. The photograph comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio whose glass negatives documented the city and its visitors in the early twentieth century. The Library of Congress received this negative as a gift in 1947. Streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of the negative's coating are visible, so some softness in the image is part of its age.
