Lyons, a village on the Des Plaines River just west of Chicago, is the place named here, though the opening words of the title are missing, so the exact street or building is unclear. The 1924 date places the view in the years when the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm, was documenting American towns and cities with commercial glass-plate negatives. The negative shows streaks and blemishes from the slow breakdown of its original coatings, a common sign of age in glass plates of this period. The title comes from the company's own notes and has not been independently verified.
