Issued by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1937, this color lithograph promotes the New York World's Fair of 1939 through its buildings, which were the fair's most striking feature. The fair's centerpiece, the white Trylon and Perisphere, rose over Flushing Meadows in Queens, and its modern architecture reflected the organizers' theme of a streamlined future. Railroads carried many of the visitors to the fair, so the poster also worked as a travel advertisement for the company. The artist is credited only as Culin, but the work shows how railroad posters of the period used strong graphic design to sell both destinations and the journey.
