Titled *The Boquet*, this hand-colored lithograph was issued in New York in 1845 by Nathaniel Currier, several years before his partnership with James Merritt Ives gave the firm its more familiar name. Currier's shop produced inexpensive sheets like this one for a broad middle-class market, and many were colored by hand, so no two copies look exactly alike. The print is listed as no. 0680 in the Currier & Ives catalog raisonné, a standard reference for tracing the firm's output. Its bouquet subject reflects the popular taste for gentle, decorative images that suited parlors and albums of the period.
