Titled *The Young Housekeepers, the day after marriage*, this hand-colored lithograph takes up a newly married couple on the morning after their wedding, when running a home turns out to be harder than they expected. Nathaniel Currier published it in New York around 1848 as one of his inexpensive genre sheets, a format that found a ready audience among middle-class buyers who enjoyed gentle comedy about everyday life. The print is catalogued in Cunningham and in the Gale Research catalog raisonné of Currier & Ives, which makes it a useful reference for anyone studying how domestic humor was sold in the 1840s.
