Recruiting in Ohio in 1937, this silkscreen poster invites adults to enroll in the federal adult schools, where many courses were offered free to people who had left formal education early. It was produced under the Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, whose poster unit used silkscreen to make inexpensive, bold images that could be displayed in post offices, shops, and public buildings. The slogan, "The world wants new knowledge, new skills," reflects the New Deal belief that retraining workers would help them find jobs during the Depression. A date stamp on the back, December 4, 1937, suggests when the poster was received or filed.
