The poster's slogan, "This is an adult world its problems are up to you!", sets the tone for an advertisement for free enrollment at a Federal adult school in Columbus, Ohio. Federal Art Project artists produced posters like this for the Work Projects Administration in the late 1930s, when federal adult education programs offered Depression-era workers instruction in basic subjects and practical skills. A date stamp on the back, April 9, 1938, places it within that campaign. The silkscreen process used here allowed artists to print bold, flat color in quantity, so the posters could be displayed widely in public places.
