The world wants new knowledge - new skills" is the headline that sets this silkscreen poster apart, urging adults to enroll in free Federal adult schools in Ohio. Part of the Works Progress Administration's adult education effort, the classes offered practical instruction to people whose schooling had been interrupted by the Depression and who needed new trades to find work. The poster was produced under the Federal Art Project, whose poster unit used silkscreen to make inexpensive, eye-catching announcements for public services. Its 1937 date and the stamp on the back, dated December 4, 1937, place it at the height of the program's work.
