Finished Cadillac automobiles, presented as ready for delivery, make this card distinct from the wider run of Detroit factory views. Cadillac had been building cars in Detroit since 1902, and General Motors brought it into the corporation in 1909, so by the late 1910s it was part of one of the largest manufacturing operations in the country. The Keystone View Company issued stereographs like this one for home viewers, letting armchair audiences see the industrial age in apparent three dimensions. Detroit's production methods, which Ford had advanced with its moving assembly line from 1913, drew wide interest from photographers and publishers of the period.
